Homerville, GA

Updated: Dec 9, 2021

So a year ago we stopped for a couple days in Homerville, Georgia and we drove by this place called Richard's Meats and Seafood. At the time we thought what a nice little shop...they must have some cool things in there. We had been to other places in other states that looked similar to this one so it just looked like a neat place to visit. Unfortunately by the time we found this place we were leaving so we wrote it down to visit at another time. One year later we were back in town and saw it on our list to visit so this time we made it a point to stop in. We were looking up the hours they were open and online everyone was saying how great their BBQ sauce, Chicken Salad and Broccoli Salad were. So now we had to stop in and try some of these things to see for ourselves of course.

Boy were they all right! Everything was amazing...we stopped in and they let us try samples of the BBQ sauce and we ended up getting their Regular, Mustard and Hot versions of the sauce. We also got containers of the Chicken Salad, Broccoli Salad, Potato Salad (which was the best I have ever had) and Grape Surprise and took it back to have for lunch. Everyone loved all the salads including the kids so if you are ever in Homerville, Georgia lookup Richard's Meats and Seafood and stop in to look around and try some of what they have to offer, we highly recommend it!

Bruce's Honey Shack in Homerville is another not to miss place! They are only open during the week and regular hours from 9-5. It is a smaller place that actually looks more like an upscale shack. Really nice staff and a good selection of honey. Of course, we couldn't buy the whole store, so we settled on the Private Selection, voted the best tasting honey in Georgia. We also picked up some pecans while we were there. So, if you're ever in the area, be sure to stop by the honey shack.

The last place you need to try in this small town is Murphy's Seafood. It is a wonderful little spot that has some pretty awesome food. Last year when we were there we stopped and got the Shrimp Platter, this year I got the Snow Crab Platter and was absolutely awesome! It's seafood, with potatoes, eggs, sausage and corn on the cob with garlic and butter and just overall goodness. I got the snow crab back to the RV and realized that I didn't have crackers, but have no fear. I got into them with a knife and my hands. Yes, they were that good. Definitely not something to eat all of the time, but definitely once a year :-)
